Will of the Magic Realm by Deanna Foster

Deanna Foster has created a wonderful fantasy world in her Middle-Grade novel “Will of the Magic Realm“.

Twelve-year-old Will lives in an old church, in a small town, with his 2 moms, next to a forest. Will does not fit in with the children his age; they do not share the same interests in dragons, elves, or wizards as he does. So he spends his time reading about his imaginary worlds.

While his moms are out, a storm hits and he looks out the window and discovers it’s not a storm but a dragon tearing apart his house. He escapes the dragon into the forest and unknowingly crosses into another realm. There he meets an elf his age named Myles. Myles and Will soon discover that Will has a connection to the dragon and that only he can find him. This starts their quest to find the dragon that destroyed Will’s home.

During this fast-paced adventure, Will discovers that some of what he has learned in his books about the fantasy world is dead wrong. Faires are not friendly or nice. And Faires are just a few of the unfriendlies they bump into on their quest. But, not all the beings they bump into are enemies. Some are nice and even help them on their journey.

This independently published novel would be a great book for any middle-grader who enjoys playing Dungeons and Dragons and even Skyrim. Written for her boys, who asked her to write a story about a dragon attacking a house, this book makes a great introduction to a series starring Will, Myles, and their magical friends as they explore this enchanted world and find new adventures.
